I know what style of wine I like but don’t know what it’s called.
It takes a while to establish your favourite style of wine. The best way to make up your mind is to try different things. Don’t be afraid to try new things and try not to order the same thing every time you go to a wine bar/restaurant. Wine professionals love questions and recommending wines for you to try. If you’re in a good wine bar or wine shop, feel free to give them a description of the style you like and they will gladly recommend something similar. Your own experience and preference with wines should always be your biggest guide.
Where is the best place to buy wine to drink at home?
Most of the time it depends on what you're looking for. We’ve so many choices for outlets these days, it’s very easy to get confused and even frustrated with the amount of options we’re faced with. Personally, I love wine shops. I like to support independents as much as I can and I also feel I’m in safe hands when it comes to making wine decisions. Staff are very knowledgeable about wine and can recommend a few options based on what you're looking for. They’re full of information and knowledge - always happy to make a suggestion. My advice would be find a good wine shop in your area and stick with them. It's so much easier to get it right in a wine shop than in a big supermarket aisle. Sure, you might find some bargain wines in supermarkets but I always find myself going back to my favourite independents.
